From the Cubmaster…

With Thanksgiving almost upon us, I’d like to take a moment to say thanks to all the individuals who do their part to make Pack 660 run. The time you are giving now contributes to the lives of our boys in many ways, from den leaders guiding the boys to moms and dads bringing snacks and helping with the Pinewood Derby. It takes the teamwork of committed adults to make a Cub Scout Pack operate smoothly, and it works best when many different people each do a small part. If you aren’t involved already, won’t you please consider taking a more active role in the operation of the Pack? We need you!!!

We are in desperate need of some key positions.

Pack Committee Chair: This self-starting person keeps leaders up to date and the Pack organized. Without the Committee Chair, Pack 660 can’t operate! Due to a job transfer early in 2005, our current Chair, John Leskovich, will be leaving us. We need to identify his replacement as soon as possible and get him or her acclimated over the next couple of months.
Wolf Den Leaders: 2-4 adults are needed to serve as Den Leaders and Assistant Leaders to replace John Leskovich.
Bear Den Assistant Leader: 1 adult needed
Pinewood Derby Committee: Several people are needed for car weigh-in and registration, tracking double-elimination brackets, trophy purchase, etc. The Pinewood Derby takes place in January.
Blue & Gold Banquet Committee: The chair of this committee organizes food purchase and preparation, decorations, entertainment, etc. The Blue & Gold will be held at the Rec. Center in February and will not be catered as in the past.
Camping Committee: Headed by a “Camp Dude” or “Camp Lady”, this committee makes reservations, distributes information to parents, collects money, and organizes everything needed for camping trips. Our Pack takes 3-4 camping trips per year.
Packliner Publisher: Do you have a creative side? Enjoy word processing? This person receives news and announcements from leaders and puts it all together into a newsletter. A once-a-month commitment.

DEN Notes

Cobra Patrol

Last week the Cobra Patrol took a hike on the Gilfillan Trail. We earned the Forester badge. We saw 3 deer, 2 wild turkeys, rabbits, squirrels, and lots of birds. We didn’t know turkeys could fly! In the woods we drew a picture of the layers of a forest. We also identified at least 6 trees and 6 plants. It was fun!

Hike at South Park with Troop 228

Troop 228 in Bethel Park has invited interested Webelos and Cubs to a 5- or 10-mile hike on Saturday, December 11. The hike fulfills a few different requirements. Meet at the parking lot by the stables on Corrigan Drive around 9:00 am. Bring a bag lunch to eat at a pavilion at Corrigan Dr. & McConkey Rd. across from the Girl Scout cabin. Wear comfortable footwear and dress for the weather!

Pack 660 Holiday Party

We will celebrate the holiday season at our December Pack meeting: Wednesday, December 15. We will have a sing-along and refreshments. Every den should contribute three dozen cookies.
