February 2006
We finished up the Mathematics Belt Loop, Scholar Pin and Engineer Pin.
The end of February saw us starting on the Scientist Pin. The boys learned about the scientific method and were assigned the task of designing science projects to demonstrate its use.
January 2006
The boys tested their catapults in a marshmallow-throwing contest. All of the designs proved to be effective.
December 2005
Each boy in Webelos 2 will be making a catapult at home. The catapuls must be fit in an 8" cube when deployed and must use a plastic spoon to hold the shot. On January 12 we will be holding a contest to see whose will shoot the farthest.
Fall 2005
The boys have been working on their Scholar and Engineer pins, and are also doing the Mathematics belt loop as one of the Scholar requirements.
June 2, 2005

May 26, 2005
Continuing with Readyman, the boys were given a CPR demonstration.
May 19, 2005
The boys worked on their Readyman skills. They practiced first aid skills, including how to stop major bleeding and improvising bandages.

A great time was had by all on the 2005 Spring Camporee. This season's theme was "A Salute to Sports". The boys spent their time trying activities sponsored by each of the attending packs. Activities were varied, including many of the traditional ones such as knot tying and compass work. All were presented in a manner consistent with the sports theme of the weekend. Each Webelos Den competed for awards in the activities. The boys were scored in part on their skill and ability in each event, but the primary emphasis was on teamwork and cooperation.
Pack 160 came away with 8 ribbons. The Webelos 1 Den won a ribbon and the Webelos 2 Den won 6 ribbons. Pack 160 won first place in the campsite safety inspection with a score of 100%! Even more important than these awards, however, was the fun that was had by our boys and their parents and leaders.
Pack 160 had the first trial run of the new camp kitchen. This is a refurbished pop-up camper that was donated to the pack. All went well in this first test and the pack enjoyed our usual fine cuisine.
Pictures of this event will be posted soon in the Photos section of the web site.
March 13-15, 2005
A wonderful weekend at Inawendiwin with our Webelos and the Boy Scouts of Troop 60. The boys practiced many outdoor skills on this weekend. We started off with a nature hike on Saturday, exploring the woods of the area and learning about the ecology of the region. Many of the boys had their first taste of foraging in the wild as they enjoyed some delicious teaberries as we walked.
The boys prepared their own lunch, practicing their cooking skills and making a delicious meal with foil-pack cookery. They worked on their fire-building skills and practiced knife use, earning their Whittling Chip. This card shows awareness of knife safety and basic skill in knife use, and gives the boys the right to carry a pocket knife at designated Scouing events.
We went on an adventure in the afternoon. After exploring the dry lake bed left by the failed dam, we went on a hike to the upper end of the lake. Crossing through a swamp on a rickety bridge, we hiked back along the far side of the lake. The bridges across the lake (now a large stream) had been washed out so we searched for another route across the stream, eventually finding a series of logs to work our way across. The boys showed a lot of courage and determination in making their way across this obstacle, and then headed back to camp for a well-deserved rest.
