2010 NATIONAL SCOUT JAMBOREE

July 26th – August 4th, 2010

Fort A.P Hill, Fredericksburg, VA

“The best, most exciting, fun-filled, safest jamboree ever!” 43,000 Scouts and leaders . . . the pinnacle of the 100th Anniversary of Scouting. Read on as to how you can participate.

Youth Participants in our Council Contingent

176 Scouts from the Patriots’ Path Council have signed up over the course of the past several months to participate in the largest celebration of 100 Years of Scouting in America, the 2010 National Scout Jamboree. We still have 4 open slots, but they likely will be filled rather quickly. Once we reach 180 Scouts, individuals will be waitlisted in anticipation of drop-offs between now and the jamboree. Scouts interested in attending the jamboree are encouraged to complete the council’s pre-registration form and return it promptly to the council office with their $100 nonrefundable deposit. For additional information, visit the Council website at http://main.ppbsa.org/general/nationalJamboree.htm.

Jamboree Troop Leaders in our Council Contingent

Registration is now open to adults who are interested in serving as troop leaders in our jamboree contingent. Qualifications vary by position and can be viewed on the new national jamboree website, http://www.bsajamboree.org/register-scoutmaster.html. Adults chosen as jamboree troop leaders will pay the standard jamboree program fee of $795. Adult scouters interested in serving as jamboree troop leaders should apply online at http://www.MyScouting.org/ no later than November 1st, 2008 (note: there is no pre-registration process in place for adult scouters seeking troop leader positions in our council contingent). If you do not already have a MyScouting account, please select the appropriate link and create an account. The Council Jamboree Committee is responsible for selecting the best qualified adults to assume leadership positions in our council contingent troops attending the jamboree. After November 1st, 2008, troop leadership candidates will be provided with a prescreening questionnaire. Candidates shall complete the questionnaire and return it to the council service center by November 21st, 2008. Candidates will be interviewed by the council jamboree committee between December 1st, 2008 and January 12th, 2009. Selection decisions will be made by the end of January 2009 and all applicants shall be advised of their standing. Troop leaders that have selected will then join the council jamboree committee and attend monthly meetings beginning in February 2009.

Jamboree Staff Positions

Registration is also open to those who are interest in serving on jamboree staff. All jamboree staff must be registered members of the Boy Scouts of America. Adult staff members must have been born before July 26, 1989 and youth staff members must have been born between August 4, 1989 and July 26, 1994. Further information is available on the new national jamboree website, http://www.bsajamboree.org/staff.html. Those chosen for staff positions are responsible for their own transportation to/from the jamboree and will pay the standard jamboree program fee of $795. In an effort to entice youth and younger adults to serve on staff, chosen staff members between the ages of 16 and 25 will pay ˝ of the jamboree fee - $395.50. Interested candidates should apply online at http://www.MyScouting.org/. If you do not already have a MyScouting account, please select the appropriate link and create an account. An electronic process has put in place for councils’ review, evaluation, and approval. Once the application is fully approved, it will be offered to the staff directors in the order of the applicant’s five choices. Note – completion of the electronic online application does not guarantee a staff position; local councils determine who may participate at a National Scout Jamboree.

Since 1937, more than 654,000 Scouts and leaders have shared the jamboree experience and hiked the trails, paths, and roadways at 16 national Scout jamborees. Now, 100 years after Scouting reached the United States, it’s your turn to celebrate! Yesterday merges with tomorrow at the greatest Scouting event of the century. It is the opportunity of a lifetime, one you will never forget. DON’T MISS OUT on this special moment in time! Plan now to participate!
