Rewards and Recognition

 

The most important values in Pinewood Derby competition are parent/son participation, good sportsmanship and learning how to follow rules. The Awards Committee is responsible for recognizing and encouraging these qualities in addition to traditional racing awards.

The annual Pinewood Derby will be held:
January 27th, 2007 at Kirkwood United Methodist Church (Geyer & Adams).

   9:00A.M. RACING: Webelos Dens 2, 8, & 9.

   9:30A.M. RACING: Bear Dens 4 & 7.

 10:00A.M. RACING: Bear Dens 1 & 6.

 10:30A.M. RACING: Wolf Dens 3, 5, & 10.

 11:00A.M. RACING: Tiger Cubs

 All Scouts & Leaders must wear their uniforms.



 

 

The race is open to all Tigers, Cub Scouts and Webelos Scouts registered in Pack 457

 

There are two types of competition, Race (timed) and Design Competition. 
The top times in the Pack will be invitied to participate in the
District Race in February


 

Cars also compete in a Design Competition within their rank
(Tigers, Wolf, Bear, Webelos I and II)

All cars must be constructed in accordance with New Horizons District Pinewood Derby guidelines. PineWood Derby Rules

 

Pinewood Derby Committee

 

The Pinewood Derby Committee conducts the annual Derby.

Track preparation, setup and tear down

Car inspections, weigh-in and registration

Design Competition.

Ensures good sportsmanship

Pinewood Derby Race officials are parent volunteers

Race Official aka “The Judge”

Ensures operation of the derby is smooth, fair and enjoyable for all.

The “Judge” will approve all race results and has the final word in all disputes. Is knowledgeable of all rules and ensures all officials and participants know and follow the rules of the Derby.

 

Registration Officials,

Responsible for Weigh-in, inspection and registration entry.

 

Timer Officials,

Responsible for conducting the race and operation of the timer software and program including obtaining PCs, printers etc.

 

Award Officials,

Responsible for selection and purchasing of the race, participation and design competition awards, reviewing the results and handing out the awards when the race is complete. 

 

Starter Officials,

Responsible for loading the cars during the race and set-up break down of the track.
