Pack 349 Pinewood Derby Rules

 

Place:                  St. Marks Church

Last Check in time:      2:00 pm

Race time:              2:15 pm

Race type:              Double Elimination

Winning a race:       Cross the finish line first.  NOT A TIMED EVENT.

Awards:                 After race completion and computation.

All racers receive Participant Ribbons or Cards.

First Place Ribbons by Scout rank;

1st Tiger, 1st Wolf, 1st Bear and 1st Webelos

                        Overall First, Second and Third place shall receive Medallions.

 

1.0        Rules:

1.1   UN-OFFICIAL pre-race weighing and measurements available the Tuesday night before the race from approximately 7:00 to 7:30 pm at St. Marks.

1.2   OFFICIAL weight and measurements are on the day of the race at check-in.

1.3   The wheels, axles and body from the official kit must be used in the construction of the pinewood derby car.

1.4   The car shall be one that has not raced before, constructed this season, from this year’s official car kit.

1.5   No propulsion system, suspension system, steering or other type of guidance, shall be used with the car.

1.6   The pre-cut axle slots shall be used.  No increase of wheelbase allowed.

1.7   The pit area shall be kept clear of all spectators and Scouts that are not in the current race.

 

 

2.0        OFFICIAL CHECK-IN REQUIREMENTS:

      2.1      Maximum Weight: 5 ounces.

      2.2      Dimensions:

                  Length; must fit inside the box (7 inches)

                  Width; must fit inside the box (2.5 inches)

Wheel and Axle Spacing; must fit inside the box, over the track centering guide, and in manufacture provided slots.

2.3All paint, glue and other types of attachment must be dry and solidly affixed

      to the car.  This is to prevent dripping onto the track surface.

2.4V” notch/shaped front ends will not be allowed to race.

       The entire front of the car must be behind the starting pin.

     

 

3.0        CHECK-IN PROCEDURES:

3.1      Show up on time!

      3.2      Once the car passes check-in, NO MODIFICATIONS ALLOWED.

3.3   If a car does not pass check-in, 1 (one) additional check-in attempt is allowed.

3.4   Any car that does not pass check-in the second time WILL NOT BE ALLOWED to compete.

3.5   The second attempt at check-in shall be after all others present are checked-in.

3.6   There shall be no check-ins allowed after the scale is put away at 2:00 pm.


 

 

4.0        AFTER CHECK-IN:

      4.1      The race official will place the car on the pit/display table.

4.2   The car shall not be modified in any way, including re-assembly of parts dislodged.

4.3   The cars shall be keep on the table at all times except when racing.

      4.4      No person may touch the cars except for the following;

                        The race officials.

                        The Scout who is called for racing.

     

 

5.0        RACE PROCEDURES:

5.1   A race official will announce the name/number of the Scouts in the race heat.

      5.2      The Scouts will WALK forward, carefully pick up their own car,

WALK to the track start area, place it on the track in the lane designated by a race official.

      5.3      A race official will verify the car placement is raceable.

The car will be re-set on the track by the Scout until the placement is determined to be raceable by the official.

5.4   The Scouts will WALK to the end of the track area to await the cars.

      5.5      The race official will start the race.

5.6   After the race official declares the race winner, the Scouts will carefully pick up their own car, WALK it back to the pit area, a race official will place it on the display table.
